OKYEHENE'S PALACE (KYEBI)
Okyehene is the title of the king of Akyem‐ Abuakwa.The Okyehene Palace is located in Kyebi, Eastern Region of Ghana. The Okyehene is also referred to as the Kwaebibiremhene because of it's abundance in rich and natural resources.
Again, the Okyehene is considered the head of the Asona clan in Ghana (Asona Piesie). Asona is one of the clans of the Akans which includes the Oyoko, Aduana, Agona, Asakyire, Bretuo, Ekuona among others.
Historically, It has been proven that the Akyems were one of the first Akan tribe to migrate southward after the fall of the ancient SONGHAI EMPIRE.
The Ofori Panin paramount Stool which is the traditional seat of the Okyehene is located in Kyebi the traditional capital of Akyem Abuakwa. The term Akyem is used to describe a group of four states. The Asante Akyem, the Akyem Abuakwa, the Akyem Kotoku and the Akyem Bosome.
Again, the Akyem Abuakwa Kingdom is made up of five divisions thus the Adonten, Nifa, Benkum, Oseawuo and Gyaase. On the death of an Okyehene, It is mandatory for all Asona Chiefs in Ghana to partake in the royal burial dubbed "dotiyie" and funeral also called "Odupon ayie". The Okyehene stool which is called the Ofori Panin Stool allows him to preside over his kingdom through his divisional Chiefs as well as other numerous chiefs and sub-Chiefs.
The current Okyehene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin ascended the Okyeman stool on October 4, 1999 after the death of his Predecessor Osagyefuo Kuntunkununku II . He is the 35th to ascend the throne.
Every Palace has a symbol which represents or stands for something. Leopard is one of the Key symbols of Okyeman. It's an epitome of perseverance, Confidence, Calculated Speed and Gracefulness. The tree symbolizes community and togetherness and also represents the rich forest of Akwamu State.
Furthermore, it connotes the Osagyefuo's advocacy for environmental protection and preservation. The book represents education which is the priority of Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin , to him education is the enlightenment, it is exposure and the only means by which we can produce meaningful citizens. The colours red ,yellow and green symbolizes royalty and growth.
